Rocky Whatule, CEO
Sensei Rocky has been studying in the Martial Arts for the last 28 years.He continues to train and get his ranking from Master Bill Viola II at the Allegheny Shotokan Karate Club in North Huntingdon, PA 5 miles from the town of Jeannette Pennsylvania where he Grew up. In 1997 he held the responsibilities of teaching and running the kindergarten curriculum at Allegheny Shotokan Karate School. Outside of the Dojo Since 1991 he has held State, National, and International titles in NBL, SKI, NASKA, USAKF, and the PKRA; In Kata, Kumite, Weapons, Self-defense and Team divisions. He has also served as Judge, Referee, and Coach at these levels as well. He was a member of "Team Yakuza" of ASKC that was Ranked #1 in the US and #3 in the World at the Schwarzenegger Classic Tournament in 1998. He has served as Tournament Coordinator and Entertainment Director of the Kumite Classic and Pittsburgh Fitness expo. He is currently a member as well as west coast coach of "Team Kumite".
Outside of the Dojo, he has been a professional comedian for the last 18 years. And currently shares his testimony on the Comedy stage. Although he came to know the Lord over 34 years ago, in November of 2011, he completely surrendered his life, career, and talents over to God. Now his comedy is completely clean and he serves as a youth leader at the Sanctuary Church in Santa Clarita.
When he is not in the Dojo, on stage, or serving at church, he is at home with his wife Heidi and his three boys Remington Isaac, Sterling Isaiah And Daxton Isreal. Sensei Rocky believes a family that kicks together sticks together and because of that his favorite Bible verse is

Michael Shanklin, Board President
Originally a native of Los Angeles, Michael joined the Zanshin-Do board of directors in September of 2014. Michael and his two children are students of Zanshin Shotokan Karate. When not working on his roundhouse kicks, Michael helps lead worship at the ministries’ services held at local and regional karate tournaments. Professionally, Michael is the CEO of Kidspace Children’s Museum.
Michael came to Kidspace following three years as the executive director at The Discovery Science Center in Tyler, Texas. While in that position, the Discover Science Center achieved a spot on Parent’s Magazine’s prestigious list of Top 25 Science Centers, in addition to earning the Texas Downtown Association Business of the Year award. During that time Michael also hosted a local television news segment promoting hands-on science activities children could do at home.
Prior to his tenure in Texas, he was the director of Guest Experience at the Discovery Gateway in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he oversaw the expansion of the museum from 20,000 square feet to 74,000 square feet; and was the aviation and space curator at Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, where he successfully lead the museum through Smithsonian affiliation and U.S. Air Force Museum certification.
Other positions Michael held include program developer at the University of Oklahoma’s Sooner Flight Academy in Norman, Oklahoma and the program director at the Aerospace Science and Technology Education Center in Oklahoma City. Michael holds a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from California State University, Northridge.
David S. Baker, Board Vice President
David is a licensed attorney and graduate of the University of Akron, School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from Bob Jones University in South Carolina. His legal practice includes advising individuals and families on the options for their charitable giving—both gift vehicle and choice of entity.
His legal and fundraising consulting practice for nonprofits includes advising on start-ups, affiliate structures, conducting charitable interest assessments, coaching development directors and their staff, and providing direction for capital, endowment and planned giving campaigns.
The strength of his practice is his experience advising high net worth individuals and families on how best to accomplish their charitable objectives.
Previously, David served as a Planned Giving Officer at the Columbus Foundation, the seventh largest community foundation in the country. He has assisted with the start-up of a rural, regional community foundation as its Director of Advancement and have also served as the launch director for National Christian Foundation Ohio (fka the Columbus Stewardship Foundation). His past professional career has included employment with the global legal publisher LEXIS-NEXIS as well as a Dayton, Ohio law firm.
David and his family call Los Angeles home.
Heidi Celeste Whatule, Board Secretary
A midwest girl from Fargo, ND never imagined being involved in the Martial Arts World or even sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Karate. However that is exactly what she is accomplishing as Secretary for Zanshin-Do Ministries. In 2000 Heidi moved to Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from North Dakota State University. For the last 17 years she has and still works as an actor with some minor roles in commercials, TV shows, Shorts and Feature Films. From 2007 - 2013 she served as CEO of Rock Star Event Entertainment and RSE Comedy Productions. while there she Produced over 1200 shows, performances and events. in 2013 when God called Heidi and Her husband to step up and establish Zanshin Do Ministries that is exactly what they did.
Currently her full time job is the role God designed her for, she is a mother of three amazing boys, Remington (9), Sterling(6), and Daxton(1). She has a 3rd degree Black Belt in "Mom-do". She
While spending most of her days as Warrior "Ninja Mom", she loves serving God and always looks for the next opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
